A small shop, a jigsaw, and a wall full of finished work
Martin's Woodwork is a small, hands-on shop in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I am Dylan, and every sign, cross, wall piece and toy box that leaves here gets drawn, cut with a jigsaw and bandsaw, sanded, painted and put together by hand. There is no CNC machine and no laser engraver in the shop, which is why no two pieces come out identical.

How a piece comes together
Three stages, all of them by hand
Nothing gets programmed into a machine. It is slower this way, and that is the whole point.
Drawn by hand
Your idea gets sketched out on paper first, at full size, so the layout and the proportions are right before any wood gets touched.
Transferred and cut
The drawing goes onto the board and every shape, letter and layer is cut out with a jigsaw and bandsaw. One piece at a time.
Sanded, painted, assembled
Each layer is sanded by hand, painted or stained, then stacked and glued so the finished piece has real depth to it.
