Handcrafted Wooden Signs, Built by Hand, Not by Machine.

Welcome to Martin's Woodwork. This isn't a factory and it isn't a warehouse, it's a small family-run shop in Hot Springs, Arkansas building one sign at a time. Every design gets drawn out by hand, cut line by line with a jigsaw, sanded, painted and assembled by our shop.

No CNC. No laser. Nothing mass produced. If you have something specific in mind, send a photo of exactly what you're wanting and we'll build the design around it.

Note: our signs are made for indoor display, or a fully covered outdoor space. They aren't finished to stand up to direct weather over time.

Why Martin's Woodwork

One person, one jigsaw, one piece at a time.

This is a small family shop in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Designs are drawn by hand, transferred onto real wood, cut with a jigsaw and bandsaw, then sanded, finished and assembled at the same shop. No CNC, no laser, no production runs. Here is what that means for the piece you order.

  • Drawn by hand before anything gets cut

Your design starts as a pencil drawing, then gets transferred onto the wood. You see and approve the layout first, so the finished piece is the one you pictured.

  • Cut with a jigsaw and bandsaw

Every line and every letter is followed by hand. That is why the edges look carved instead of stamped out.

  • No CNC. No laser. Ever.

There is not a single automated machine in this shop. What you buy cannot be reproduced by a file on a computer.

  • One small shop, start to finish

We cut it, sand it, paint or stain it, and assemble it ourselves. You talk to the shop building your sign, not a support desk.

  • Built for you, not pulled off a shelf

Your name, your team, your colors, your size. Nothing here is mass produced and no two pieces come out identical.

  • Real wood and a finish that lasts

Birch ply, pine and cedar, hand sanded smooth through the grits and finished by brush for indoor or fully covered display.

Work is taken in the order it comes in. Pick a category or send your idea and we will draw it up.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is any of this made with a CNC or laser engraver?
No. Not one piece. Every design is drawn by hand, transferred onto the wood, then cut out with a jigsaw and bandsaw. Everything is hand-sanded, hand-painted or hand-stained, and hand-assembled in our shop in Arkansas. If a sign on this site looks perfectly identical to another, it isn't, that's not how hand-cutting works.
How long does an order take?
Everything here is built to order, your piece doesn't exist until you buy it. Build time varies with size, layers, and how many builds are ahead of yours, so we don't post a fixed number we can't honor. Once your order comes in we'll message you with a realistic window and send progress photos along the way.
How do custom orders work?
Send us your idea along with a photo of exactly what you're wanting, a reference picture is the fastest way to get it right. We'll reply with questions, a layout, and a firm price. Nothing gets cut until you approve it. A 50% deposit starts the build and the balance is due before shipping.
What wood do you use?
Mostly birch ply and solid pine for layered painted signs, and solid pine and birch for toy boxes and furniture pieces. Cedar for anything living outdoors. We'll tell you exactly what your piece is built from.
What does shipping cost and how do you pack?
Shipping is a UPS Ground estimate based on the size of the sign, bigger, heavier boxes cost more. Because UPS rates change with distance, we confirm the exact shipping cost with you before your piece ships, so you always know the number before it goes out the door. Oversized work, toy boxes, business signs and large wall art, isn't sold through checkout at all: send a quote request and we'll price the piece with delivery included. Local pickup is available in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and shipping is available nationwide. Everything ships from Arkansas via UPS Ground, wrapped in foam, corner-protected, and double-boxed on the big pieces.
Can a sign go outside?
Our signs are built for indoor display, or an outdoor spot that stays fully covered, a porch, a patio, a garage. They are painted birch and pine, not weather-rated material, so we can't say how one will hold up once it's exposed to rain, sun and humidity over time. If you need a piece for an uncovered exterior wall, tell us before you order and we'll talk about cedar and an exterior finish instead.
